About Athens, MI - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Athens, Michigan is a small village located in Calhoun County. As of 2010, just over 1,000 people called the community home. Athens is conveniently located about 17 miles north of Battle Creek along M-66, and it is 31 miles southeast of Kalamazoo. The community is served by Athens Area Schools, and Athens High School has repeatedly received a bronze medal and recognition in national rankings.

There are several interesting things to see and do in Athens despite the community’s small size. Families enjoy a visit to Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary, which is home to hundreds of rescued, adopted, and donated animals. There are plenty of delicious meal offerings available at Copper Kettle Restaurant and The Office Lounge and Restaurant, while local shops include the Athens Village Pharmacy and Hurst Family Market.  Each summer, the community also hosts a weekend called Athens Summer Homecoming, which features food, live entertainment, and other special events.

Both residents and visitors to Athens need to be prepared for varied weather conditions throughout the year. The spring and summer seasons are quite pleasant, with temperatures topping out in the low-80s during July and August. In the peak of the summer, humidity levels rise, and muggy air can make outdoor conditions uncomfortable. Most residents invest in central air conditioning in order to stay cool at home, and a system with a high SEER rating can help homeowners to lower their utility bills.

Winter weather in Athens is cold and snowy, and with frigid temperatures, residents need to select the right climate controls at home. Gas and electric furnaces alike offer energy-saving features, such as variable and multi-speed functions. These options will slowly ramp up thermostat settings as needed rather than constantly running at full speed. This will also alleviate the “cold air blow” that accompanies single-speed furnaces, and it drastically reduces system noise.
